Despite the escalating tensions over Kashmir, Indian and Pakistani officials will meet on Friday (August 30) to discuss the Kartarpur Corridor project. Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammed Faisal said that both sides will hold a technical meeting at Zero Point on the border on Friday.
“India concurred with Pakistan’s proposal, and the technical meeting on Kartarpur Sahib corridor is being held on August 30 at Zero Point,” Faisal said at a briefing here on Thursday. “Pakistan remains committed to completing and inaugurating the Kartarpur Sahib corridor as announced by our Prime Minister,” he added.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had laid the rumors regarding opening of Kartarpur Corridor and made it clear that despite tensions with India, Pakistan stands ready to open the Kartarpur Corridor. He said that Pakistan will welcome the Sikh pilgrims to the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.
Tensions between Pakistan and India are running high since August 5, when BJP led Indian government revoked the Article 370 and 35A of Indian constitution which granted the special status to Kashmir.
