Indian police on Friday (Dec 6) shot dead four detained gang-rape and murder suspects as they were re-enacting their alleged crime, prompting outrage but also wild celebrations.
The men, who had been in custody for a week, were shot early Friday morning as they tried to escape during the re-enactment in the southern city of Hyderabad, police said. “They were killed in crossfire. They tried to snatch weapons from the guards but were shot dead,” deputy police commissioner Prakash Reddy told international news agency.
The woman was raped, asphyxiated and her dead body then set alight on November 27 on the outskirts of the southern city of Hyderabad, according to police. Four men aged between 20 and 28 years have been arrested in connection with the crime.
As per details, the victim left home on her motorbike, ten days ago to go to a doctor’s appointment.
She called family later to say she had a flat tyre, and a lorry driver had offered to help. She said she was waiting near a toll plaza. Efforts to contact her afterwards were unsuccessful, and her body was discovered under a flyover by a milkman on Thursday morning.
