Increasing number of polio cases is an alarming situation for Pakistan and it seems that PTI government is failed to implement effective health programs in across the country. The increasing refusal by individuals and communities to accept vaccination needs to be actively addressed. It is now essential that the new government renews its efforts, noting that the eradication program in the country is no longer on-track.
Focal Person to Prime Minister Imran Khan on polio eradication Babar Bin Atta says Pakistan would soon be declared as a polio-free country. Talking to a news channel, he said PTI led government is making all out serious efforts to wipe out polio virus from the country. Baber Bin Atta said, Polio eradication is a national cause and every effort would be made to make Pakistan polio-free country.
He said government, through World Health Organization, has arranged vaccine worth millions of rupees to protect children against polio. He urged media, civil society and religious organizations to work with the government in its anti-polio efforts.
Pakistan’s polio eradication program is no longer on-track, noted the International Health Regulations (IHR) Emergency Committee, convened by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The committee further expressed its concerns about the attacks on vaccinators and the police accompanying them.
