November 23 and 24, B-Town star Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel are scheduled to appear before Mumbai Police.
The two sisters, recognised as the most controversial figures in Bollywood, will appear before the Bandra Police in connection with the FIR filed against them by Munnawar Ali Sayyed, the fitness trainer and casting director.
The complainant alleged that through their derogatory and contentious posts on their official social media pages, the two had spread hate between the Muslim and Hindu communities.
According to ANI: “Police summoned Kangana Ranaut and Rangoli Chandel to appear before Bandra Police on 23-24 November over “objectionable remarks on social media to spread community friction between two communities.
Under sections 153A [promoting enmity among various groups], 295A [deliberately attempting to outrage religious sentiments of any class by degrading their religious beliefs] and 124A [sedition], the Ranaut sisters were booked under the Indian Penal Code.
The two had previously been summoned on 25 and 26 October, but a second summons was given on 10 November following their failure to appear before the police. After that, their counsel had requested a date after November 15, saying that they were currently engaged in their brother’s marriage.
Rizwan Siddiqui, Kangana’s counsel, had tweeted: “My clients Ms. Kangana Ranaut & Ms. Rangoli Chandel will not attend the Police Station on 26th & 27th because of their younger brother’s wedding arrangements & ongoing functions in their home town. I responded to the summons & sought time after Nov 15th.”
