At least 8-12 people died due to deadly sudden land sliding near the Khushi point on the Karakoram Highway. As per details, the accident took place when a van carrying local labors was hit by landslide and got buried under the rubble, authorities confirmed.
The recovered bodies have been shifted to hospital. The Karakoram Highway was subsequently closed off for traffic. However work on opening the highway is underway.
The Karakoram Highway is a 1,300-kilometre (810 mi) national highway which extends from Hasan Abdal in the Punjab province of Pakistan to the Khunjerab Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan, where it crosses into China and becomes China National Highway 314. The highway connects the Pakistani provinces of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan with China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
