Katy Perry has lost a legal case against rapper Marcus Gray, as jury found the pop singer Katy Perry had copied a 2009 Christian rap song for her 2013 hit “Dark Horse.” The decision was unanimous by a nine-member federal jury in a Los Angeles courtroom.
Katy was accused by Flame for copying his song called Joyful Noise. He said that Katy’s song Dark Horse was copied from his song that was released in the year 2008. Flame filed a lawsuit against Katy Perry and the California Federal court has ruled in favour of Flame. Katy Perry’s song called Dark Horse was released in the year 2013. Flame filed a legal case accusing Katy Perry of copying his song.
As per reports, Katy Perry’s lawyer said that Katy’s team is trying to make blocks of music, which must be available for all. He further added that Flame cannot be allowed to claim his copyright as only two beats of the songs are the same.
On the other hand, Flame’s team of lawyers said that Katy Perry copied a very crucial element from Flame’s song Joyful Noise. Not just Katy Perry but even the six songwriters associated with the Dark Horse song will be liable for penalties. The court hasn’t decided how much damages Katy will have to pay as penalty.
