As per to the annual Forbes list released last day, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is the only cricketer to feature in the top 100 list, Tennis star Roger Federer is the world’s highest-paid athlete for the year 2020.
Kohli had estimated total earnings of $26 million ($24 million from endorsements and $2 million from salary/winnings). He made a massive jump of over 30 places from 2019, as he was positioned at the 66th spot in this year’s list.
The Swiss tennis star, owner of a men’s record 20 Grand Slam singles titles Roger Federer, earned $106.3 million in the last 12 months, including $100 million via endorsements, to move up 4 places and become the 1st player from Tennis to top the list.
Soccer stars included Cristiano Ronaldo ($105 million), Messi ($104 million) and Neymar ($95.5 million) and American basketball player LeBron James ($88.2 million) are below from Roger Federer in the list.
Just 2 women athletes featured on the list. Japan’s Naomi Osaka ($37.4 million), who was ranked 29th, excelled fellow tennis player Serena Williams ($36 million) as the world’s highest-earning female athlete.
Among the top 100 there are 35 players from Basketball, 31 from American football. Soccer was the next most-represented sport with 14 players, followed by tennis 6, boxing and mixed martial arts 5, golf 4, motor racing 3, and baseball with 1.
