Doctors of Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar called off their strike for two days on Monday morning. According to details, the doctors took this decision following announcement of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan to have a meeting with representatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Doctors Council in Peshawar tomorrow to discuss their grievances.
Dr. Sirajul Islam the convener for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Doctors Council announced that the OPD at Lady Reading Hospital would remain open on Monday and Tuesday. However, OPDs at Khyber Teaching Hospital, Hayatabad Medical Complex and other hospitals would remain closed as part of the strike.
The whole controversy were started after Provincial Health Minister Dr. Hisham Khan and his guard allegedly tortured an Assistant Professor of Khyber Teaching Hospital. The incident took place during a meeting of the hospital board of governor. The KP Doctors Council are demanding to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the provincial health minister. As per reports, Dr. Ziauddin and Health Minister exchanged harsh words during a meeting of the Hospital Board and minister started beating the doctor. The doctor was severely beaten, who was admitted to emergency ward of the hospital after sustaining injuries.
