The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly on Friday (Dec 28) has dissolved the KP Ehtesab Commission and repealed the Ehtesab Commission Act, 2014. The Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar during the hearing of land grabbing case against PML-N MNA Afzal Khokhar, MPA Saiful Malook Khokhar and Shafi Khokhar, ordered the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) to complete its investigation against Khokhar brothers and other officials involved in illeagal properties’ occupation.
The assembly passed the KP Ehtesab Commission (Repeal) Act, 2018, which stated that all inquiries, investigations and references initiated by the dissolved commission shall be transferred to Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). ACE Director General Hussain Asghar told the three-judge bench that Shafi and Saif didn’d join the investigation adding that town municipal administration was not extending its cooperation to the ACE. At this, the chief justice summoned Mayor retired Col Mubashar Ahmad and adjourned hearing after Friday prayers.
Ehtesab Commission has been established through an Act of KP Provincial Assembly, 2014 as an independent and autonomous body for the purpose to combat corruption and to restore public trust in the Govt. and its institutions responsible for the development and delivery of services to common man and to ensure to retrieval of already embezzled resources.
