Notices were sent to 24 fashion houses and designers by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for allegedly being involved in “massive tax evasion”.
In a notification issued by the FBR, the bureau claims that some designers paid little to no tax despite making millions from a single dress, the bureau said it came across this information while surveying new taxpayers. It added that their declared income did not correspond with their receipts.
The names of famous designers such as Wardha Saleem, Sania Maskatiya, Amna Chaudhry, Natasha Kamal, and others were mentioned in the list who were sent notices.
According to the notification, “Their declared income does not commensurate with their receipts. The designers’ tax returns were being analyzed and a desk audit was being conducted. The information about the designers’ income will be matched with their declared Income and Wealth statements filed. It is estimated that a huge loss of revenue would be detected.”
