A talented Pakistani actress and singer, Ayesha Omar opened up about being a victim of ” Serious Harassment” by a member of the industry. She added that she did not have the strength to talk about it yet, said while discussing the #MeToo movement at “Geo News show Lekin“.
“I hope I’m as brave as Meesha Shafi one day,” she said. “The thing is that it’s when people like Meesha come forward, that other people draw the strength to tell their stories.”
Sharing his views on the “rumors” that Meesha’s allegations are a publicity stunt or a personal grudge, Ayesha stressed that Meesha had nothing but “negative publicity” to gain controversy.
“She’s getting all kinds of vulgar comments, angry reactions, accusations Meesha is lucky enough to have a supportive family. I know she’s a bold, outspoken woman and won’t stand for any injustice. But for her to still take so long to come forward.”
When asked about Ali Zafar’s response to the allegations, Ayesha said: “Ali Zafar is one of the biggest actors in our industry, I have known him since childhood, he is a friend of mine, but that is doesn’t mean anything. If there is no evidence of [what he was accused of], Ali has the right to deny anything. I would do the same. But that doesn’t mean that we can doubt honesty or of the accuser’s intentions. “
“#MeToo movement is extremely important because it takes a lot for the people who’ve been victims to open up about their experiences. There are so many men and women in our own industry who have been through it,” Omar said.
“Because I have been through harassment in my life and career, I understand how it feels. I don’t have the courage to talk about it yet, maybe someday I will but I can totally relate to everybody who has been through it,” Omar said.
