The president of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Division Dr Christopher Elias met with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and presented him a letter from Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Bill Gates has hinted to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan in the letter. He assured the PM Imran Khan that Microsoft is looking for investment opportunities to made investment in Pakistan. Bill Gates appreciated the efforts made by the Pakistan to tackle the issue of Polio.
Dr Christopher Elias was accompanied by Director General World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreye. PM Imran Khan assured both the guests that his government will continue to work to eradicate the Polio from Pakistan.
The Prime Minister said that the polio vaccination activities were well organised in close collaboration with provinces and were directly overseen by the national, provincial and divisional task forces.
Khan expressed commitment of his government for complete eradication of polio from the country. He expressed the hope that WHO would continue as a reliable partner in government efforts to improve health facilities in Pakistan.
Dr Tedros Adhanom congratulated the prime minister on his victory in the general election. He said that WHO had increased its focus on public health, country-level impacts and bringing improvements in people’s access to health-related knowledge and information. He also informed the prime minister about W.H.O’s ongoing programmes in Pakistan.
W.H.O has considerably increased level of support in Pakistan, mainly due to intensified activities of the polio eradication initiatives, said the Director General W.H.O. The prime minister said that Pakistan attached importance to W.H.O and appreciated its role in health care system.
