Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday (April 19) has barred new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe Model Town carnage case till April 30.
During the hearing, LHC has given time to Punjab government to submit reply in the case within 15 days. Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on April 11 summoned Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, provincial law minister, chief secretary and the law secretary to appear before in a contempt of court case regarding Model Town incident.
Earlier JIT has recorded the statements of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PML-N leaders named in the FIR — Rana Sanaullah, Khawaja Asif , Pervaiz Rashid and then CM Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif.
The Model Town Massacre was a violent clash between the Punjab Police and Pakistan Awami Tehreek activists on 17 June 2014, in which at least 14 people were killed and over 100 were injured by police gunfire. The clashes were started when the police launched an operation to remove the barriers from the road leading to the offices of Minhaj-ul-Quran and the residence of PAT founder Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri in Model Town, Lahore.
