A Customs court on Saturday (March 9) during the hearing of a case pertaing to currency smuggling, declared model Ayyan Ali a proclaimed offender in a currency smuggling case and issued a permanent arrest warrents of Ali. A permanent arrest warrant means that whenever she arrives in Pakistan, she will be arrested.
Ali’s lawyers Shaukat Abbas and Muhammad Nawaz as well as the prosecutor handling her case to present the details of the case. The judge expressed displeasure over Ali’s constant absences. It also ordered the relevant departments to halt the sale of her apartment in Karachi. The case was adjourned till March 16.
The case was lodged on March 14, 2015 after Ayyan was arrested at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Airport while boarding a flight to the United Arab Emirates carrying $506,800 without the permission of the State Bank of Pakistan. She was later sent to jail and the government put her name on the Exit Control List (ECL). But the model subsequently left for Dubai after she was released on bail and a court ordered the removal of her name from the ECL.
