The Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal is under heavy criticism from the opposition over his controversial remarks on ongoing corruption cases in an interview with journalist. Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Asif Zali Zardari on Tuesday (May 21) said that he will take action against NAB Chief as does not have the right to give an interview
His post does not allow him to do this. We will take action against it,” Zardari told reporters outside the accountability court. “The law says the accused is the favourite child of the court unless there is proof of guilt. Right now no one is guilty and you [NAB] are placing people in handcuffs, drag the elderly to jail and then say run the economy,” the former president added.
On the other hand former Prime Minister nad senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has raised objections over the impartiality of NAB chairman and said that NAB Chairman should not give any statement which shows favour or discrimination towards any party, adding that in the interview Justice (retd) Javaid Iqbal said that Ahad Cheema’s arrogance took him to the task.
“The only propose of NAB is to defame politicians and put baseless allegations on them. How can the country run if politicians are always targeted,” said the veteran Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader.
“One shouldn’t be arrogant but is arrogance a national crime,” the former prime minister questioned. “Either the NAB Chairman is lying or the interviewer but in both cases, politicians are being defamed.” “The character assassination campaign must stop now,” he said. “The economy is in tatters and a big share of responsblity for it rests with the NAB.”
