Ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday (April 30) has filed a plea in Supreme Court (SC) for extension in his bail until verdict on review petition. Its worth mentioning that Nawaz’s bail will end on May 7 however, decision on his review petition filed against March 26 verdict is yet to come.
Earlier Nawaz Sharif on April 25 filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking permanent bail on medical grounds and approval to travel abroad for treatment. Nawaz Sharif’s medical history had also been affixed with the application that was submitted by the former premier’s counsel, Khawaja Haris. Nawaz’ lawyer argued that six weeks are not enough for recovery of Nawaz Sharif and doctors suggested complete treatment and rest.
Nawaz Sharif was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail, on Tuesday (March 26) night. A three-member bench of the Supreme Courtgranted six-week bail to Nawaz Sharif against two surety bonds of 5 million rupees each for medical treatment within the country. Nawaz will not be allowed to leave the country, the chief justice said. A court in Islamabad on Dec 23 sentenced the former prime minister to seven years in prison following Al-Azizia steel mills reference while he has been acquitted in the Flagship Investment reference.
