Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday (April 25) filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking permanent bail on medical grounds and approval to travel abroad for treatment.
Nawaz Sharif’s medical history had also been affixed with the application that was submitted by the former premier’s counsel, Khawaja Haris. Nawaz’ lawyer argued that six weeks are not enough for recovery of Nawaz Sharif and doctors suggested complete treatment and rest.
Former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail, on Tuesday (March 26) night. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court granted six-week bail to Nawaz Sharif against two surety bonds of 5 million rupees each for medical treatment within the country. Nawaz will not be allowed to leave the country, the chief justice said. A court in Islamabad on Dec 23 sentenced the former prime minister to seven years in prison following Al-Azizia steel mills reference while he has been acquitted in the Flagship Investment reference.
