The Punjab government directed the provincial prison authorities to provide “better facilities” to the incarcerated former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore. He will serve the sentence in Kot Lakhpat jail. He spent his first night in Adayala jail and shifted to Lahore Kot Lakhpat jail. The jail authorities will provide mattress, two chairs, one table, and newspaper to former prime minister. He will be entitled to use his home crockery, clothes, and other stuff. He will be able to eat home cooked food. The jail authorities have already prepared a cell for Nawaz Sharif.
Former prime minister submitted application to the accountability court judge Arshad Malik to transfer him to Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore instead of Adayala jail in Rawalpindi. He made the request after the verdict of sentencing him seven years in prison by accountability court. The judge accepted his request and ordered his transfer to Kot Lakhpat jail. The NAB prosecutors oppose the request which was turned down by the judge.
Former chief minister and younger brother of former prime minister, Shahbaz Sharif is already in Kot Lakhpat jail on judicial remand in a corruption case. Another PML-N stalwart Hanif Abbasi is already serving his sentence in the same prison.
