Chairman Federal Bureau of Revenue Shabbar Zaidi on Sunday (May 19) has said that we need to do long term reforms in the country’s tax and revenue system to bring stability in the economy and bring non tax payers in the tax net. He made it clear that there is no ambiguity in the new Amnesty scheme and no change will be made to it.

Addressing the business community at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry he said atmosphere of fear being created by notices of NAB and FIA is being overcome adding that FIA has been asked to consult with FBR before taking any action.
To a question, Shabbar Zaidi said relief can be provided on some raw materials all raw materials cannot be provided the tax amnesty. He asked the traders to come up with better suggestions about tax system and he will take up the plausible ones.
Chairman FBR pointed out the issue of smuggling and sell of smuggled goods in markets openly and said these things are also damaging our tax and revenue system.
“If the business community and traders assure and support me for not holding any protest then I can issue orders for conducting raids in the markets for illegal goods from tomorrow,” he said. Mr Zaidi assured the business community that there would be a maximum of two audits in a year and said “We want revival of confidence in the FBR,” the businessmen told him. “I will give you the trust, and you will get this confidence” .
