Minister of State for Interior, Shehryar Afridi, on Tuesday (Nov 6), during National Assembly session clarified that, “No notification has been issued by the interior ministry regarding public holiday on November 9”. “Naya Pakistan’s vision is to work seven days a week, 24 hours a day,” he further said. “Prime Minister Imran Khan and federal cabinet have not taken a day off.”
November 9 is celebrated as ‘Iqbal day’ every year in all the provinces as a tribute to Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the “Poet of the East”. Iqbal was born on 9 November 1877 in Sialkot, within the Punjab Province of British India (now in Pakistan). Allama Iqbal is regarded as national poet of Pakistan. he was a poet, philosopher and politician, as well as an academic, barrister and scholar. He played a prominent role in making of Pakistan as he first gave the idea of separate homeland.
