The Federal Revenue Council (FBR) has rejected information on the imposition of withholding tax on motorcycles and rickshaws in Sindh.
FBR said in a statement, “No new withholding tax has been imposed on motorcycles and rickshaws in Sindh. All reports airing on different media outlets are baseless.”
According to the 2001 Income Tax Ordinance, no change has been made to the Motor Vehicle Tax, said the FBR spokesman, adding that the FBR did not intend to impose a new tax on motorcycles and rickshaws.
He further said that government is committed to providing all necessary facilities to the lower class.
Previously, it was revealed that FBR had sent a letter to the Department of Excise and Taxation Sindh on July 22, asking to collect the withholding tax.
The current registration fee for a motorcycle is Rs 3,400, while rickshaw registration fee are Rs 3,100.
