Hamza Ali Abbasi, an admired Pakistani actor, recently came forward to condemn the widespread use of item numbers in the film industry.
The Jawani Phir Nahi Ani star was asked during an interview with a local outlet about his disdain for item numbers and whether or not his opinion was shared about them going against religious teachings.
Let me ask you, what could be wrong with the dance moves being based on the absolute objectification of the dancing woman?” Abbasi said.
The Mann Mayal actor proceeded to add that these ‘sexual appeal’ songs are readily available for kids to watch, which makes it all the more troublesome.
He also argued that relying solely on objectifying women was the “lowest type of art,” calling the whole fiasco “nonsense.”
He went further and provided the example of Indian director Rajkumar Hirani and his iconic movie 3 Idiots, which he believed was a success without “obscene songs” being present.
“On the television, you don’t demean a woman and call it art. It might be my opinion, but why aren’t strip shows art then he said.
“A frustrated Abbasi said, “I do not know why we have come to a point where we can sit with our families and watch this.
