Soon after PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz came out with explosive claims regarding the trial that led to her father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, being convicted and sentenced to prison, saying the entire judicial process was severely compromised, the opposition has demanded a fair investigation in the matter.
The video clip played at the joint press conference led by senior PML-N leadership revealed a meeting between a party worker [Nasir Butt] and the accountability judge.
Siraj Ul Haq demanded Judicial Commission
Ameer Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Siraj Ul Haq has demanded a formation of judicial commission over the alleged video of AC judge. Addressing a presser after the conclusion of the JI majlis-e-shura in Lahore, he said that Chief Justice of Supreme Court (SC) should not be silent over the alleged video and unearth the facts in front of masses by forming the judicial commission adding that justice (retd) Abdul Qayoom and Chairman NAB video have also surfaced earlier.
Arshad Malik Should Avoid Becoming Party: Marriyum
Marriyum Aurangzeb, spokesperson of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday said that the judges who write their verdicts on the basis of merit never explain their positions and the recent press release will make the matter even more suspicious.
In her response to Judge Arshad Malik’s press release, she said, “The recent press release by Judge Arshad Malik proved the allegations of PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz. She said, “Those who write their verdicts on the basis of merit never give explanations.”
“We believe that the judge is innocent so he should avoid becoming a party into the matter as Maryam Nawaz has some more concrete pieces of evidence which will be presented in front of the public on the right time,” she added. “Which happened with a former premier is a question itself,” she further added. “We hope that the SC will take notice of the matter and bring the truth to the fore following the news conference of Maryam Nawaz,” she concluded.
Sindh CM Demands Investigation
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday said that there should a detailed investigation on the leaked videotape of Accountability Court’s Judge Arshad Malik so the maculae could be removed from the judiciary.
Talking to media in Sukkur the Sindh CM said that the video that was displayed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president Maryam Nawaz against the AC’s Judge Arshad Malik should be investigated thoroughly so the court could evacuate itself from the allegations. In response to a question, he said, “There is a water shortage in the province and I hold all of the portfolios and I am responsible to assign these roles to suitable people.”
PPP Insists For Public Hearing
Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has demanded Supreme Court of Pakistan to hold a public hearing of the case pertaining to a video leaked by PML-N leaders of an Accountability Judge.
Nayyar Bukhari, PPP Secretary-General, in his statement said: “Supreme court must take notice and take up the case for a public hearing to ensure that no one questions freedom of judiciary in the country. This event has urged people to question the credibility of the judiciary”. He added that Justice (R) Naseem Shah had confessed is “on the record” and soul of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is also due to get justice.
Fazalur Rehman Demands SC To Take Notice
Hours after PML-N leader showed a secretly recorded video of an accountability court judge, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman said that press conference of Maryam Nawaz has shocked everyone, Supreme Court should take notice of the matter.
Talking to media in Sukkur, he said, “I am saying from day one that political revenge is being taken on the name of accountability.” He said that all opposition parties should boycott the accountability process.
