Members of the Opposition and government coalition parties including Pakistan PPP, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Balochistan National Party on Wednesday (June 19) signed a petition for the issuance of former president Asif Ali Zardari’s production orders to attend the National Assembly session.
The PPP members had also staged a sit-in in front of the speaker’s dais on Monday over his failure to issue Zardari’s production order. Moreover, Bilawal chaired a consultation meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday and directed the party delegation, led by former PPP prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, to request National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser to implement on the rules of the lower house of parliament and issue the production order for the party’s co-chairman.
According to media local media reports, Prime Minister Imran Khan has issued directives for not issuing production orders for any member of the National Assembly, including Zardari.
The former President was arrested on June 10 after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected his pre-arrest bail. He was taken into custody by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further investigation. Asif Zardari is accused on money laundering charges through the creation of fake bank accounts, causing heavy losses to the national exchequer.
