After a shaky performance by the top order and then collapse of the middle order, Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz helped Pakistan to alive their hopes for the last fours after defeating Afghanistan after a thrilling contest. Imad Wasim hit the winning shot, finishing off the match with two balls to spare.
Pakistan were in hot waters after losing yet another wicket in the 47th over in their World Cup match against Afghanistan at Headingley on Saturday (June 29).
All rounder Shadab Khan (11) was run out by Gulbadin Nabi and Ikram Alikhil when he was running back for a second run. Imad Wasim was then joined by Wahab Riaz as Pakistan chased a modest 228-run target. Earlier, in a crucial match of the World Cup 2019 Pakistani bowlers restricted Afghanistan at 227 runs on Saturday at Headingley Leeds.
Afghanistan were jolted by Shaheen Shah Afridi, who bagged his fourth wicket of the day by dismissing Rashid Khan in the 47th over. Asghar Afghan and Najibullah have posted 42 each to help Afghanistan to cross the 200 mark.
Muhammad Amir disappointed in today’s fixture as he did not take a single wicket while Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz took two wickets each. Shadab Khan has also bagged one wicket.
