Federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari said: “Pakistan faces the biggest problem of child abuse.”
Shireen Mazari was the main guest at launching a web portal to streamline treaty registration to strengthen human rights and GSP Plus status, It was organized by the Human Rights Department in collaboration with Search for Justice. “Every time there is an incident, it is followed by an uproar, which eventually fades away. But what about prior to the incident? There is a serious lack of awareness and issue in the mindset of the people which needs to be changed.”
She said a “Zainab Alert Bill” had already been drafted and sent to the Standing Committee on Human Rights, chaired by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. “I do not understand why this bill is stuck in the standing committee, it’s about children, why politicize the issue?”, She said.
The minister said she would personally go to public and private schools to raise public awareness about child abuse and to talk with parents and teachers.
