After ‘Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor’, another Pakistani short film ‘Rani’ has won its first European Award For Best Short Film. Rani has earlier won the Fox Inclusion Short Award at Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival and Outstanding Writer Award at the prestigious NBC Universal Short Film Festival in Los Angeles earlier this year. Recently, the short film has won the Lesbisch Schwule Filmtage Hamburg International Queer Film Festival in Germany.
GrayScale, which has co-produced Rani, took to Instagram to share the news. “Rani‘s first European award, a cute Ursula for ‘Best Short Film’, from the Lesbisch Schwule Filmtage Hamburg International Queer Film Festival, in Germany!” the post read.
Written and directed by Hammad Rizvi and produced by Akbar Allana and Sara Siddiqi, Rani is a story about a transgender Pakistani woman who sets out to take care of an abandoned child.
