Government has decided to commemorate Friday as “Defence Day” as well as “Kashmir Solidarity Day”.
“All office throughout Pakistan will be closed at 15:00 (3pm) to commemorate the Defence Day of Pakistan, observe solidarity with the people of Kashmir and visit families of martyrs and monuments,” said a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday. The purpose of the closure of the offices is to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir and to visit the families of Martyrs and monuments.
Earlier, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Asif Ghafoor had said that Pakistanis will show solidarity with innocent Kasahmiris on Defence day (September 6).
He had said that as per the plan, at 12 pm, sirens will be rung across the country adding that this year there is a change in the format of the Defence Day ceremony and the main ceremony will be held at the general headquarters. The DG ISPR said that there will not be a ceremony in the evening, but in the morning. Only the ghazis (victors) and families of the martyred will attend the ceremony, he added.
Last month, the nation also celebrated its 73rd Independence Day as Kashmir Solidarity Day to express full support to Kashmiri brethren in their just struggle for right to self-determination.
Curfew and other restrictions are in place in the territory since August 5 when the Indian government revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status after abrogating Article 370 of its constitution. Markets and schools are also closed for the past one month. Indian forces are using drones equipped with hi-resolution cameras and night-vision devices to monitor anti-India protests and other pro-freedom activities in the territory.
