A seven-member parliamentary team, headed by Punjab Assembly speaker Pervaiz Elahi, has been formed to discuss the matter of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairmanship.
According to details, the team will review the demands of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders for their return to standing committees. The move came after National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar accepted Shehbaz Sharif’s resignation as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). The National Assembly Secretariat has issued a notification in this regard.
According to the notification, the resignation will be applicable from November 20, 2019. Shahbaz Sharif has tendered resignation citing personal issues.
After months of wrangling between the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over the issue of the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) chairmanship, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif was on December 22,2018 elected unopposed chairman of the parliamentary watchdog.
