Advocate Azhar Siddiqui has filed a petition in Lahore High Court, that challenged the appointment of Shehbaz Sharif as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The petitioner, Azhar Siddiqui, has named the federal government and National Assembly speaker as respondents in his plea. Advocate Siddiqui claims that, “Shehbaz is not fit for the position as he is facing corruption allegations.” The petitioner requested the LHC to declare Shehbaz’s PAC chairman appointment as null and void.
Meanwhile recently elected chairman of the Public Accounts Committee , Shabaz Sharif will chair the first meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today (Dec 28). Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly is currently under custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with Ashiana Iqbal Housing scam case.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President and Shahbaz Sharif was elected chairman of the Public Accounts Committee unopposed on December 21 as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government conceded the chairmanship of PAC to Shehbaz almost three months after a stalemate over the key position. His name was proposed by PMLN lawmaker Rohail Ashghar and endorsed by Mushahid Hussain Syed during the meeting of the parliamentary body.
