The Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar informed the National Assembly that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) suffered a loss of Rs.280 million after suspension of its flight operation to and from the European Union states.
Ghulam Sarwar said In a written reply that the Pakistan International Airlines receipts from its flight operation in the European Union bloc fell to Rs.1.41 billion from Rs.1.69 billion in July-August 2020.
The Aviation Minister further added that the airline raked in a sum of Rs.520 million from its Pakistan-UK flights during this period.
Ghulam Sarwar also said it hired the services of Malta company for flights between the 2 countries besides operating four round-trip charter flights during COVID-19 lockdowns, The National Flag Carrier raked in Rs.5.81 billion revenue as against expenditure to the tune of Rs.5.31 billion, Ghulam Sarwar said
The Aviation Minister said the PIA also resumed flights to Canada, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Malaysia, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia.
