Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will start direct flights between Pakistan-US from April 2020 and the PIA administration sought permission from the American officials for it besides providing related documents and plans.
According to sources, PIA will use its Boeing 777 long-haul aircraft for its flights to the United States. It is pertinent to mention here that a US Homeland Security team visited Pakistan to get an overview of the arrangements for direct flights to Islamabad and Karachi airports.
In addition, the US Transportation Security Authority had also completed its audit of PIA aircraft and airport security measures. Officials from the security agency expressed their satisfaction over the security measures.
The national flag carrier’s administration is seeking official permission from US authorities to launch direct flights from Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, sources said. This development came after the successful visit of PIA’s General Manager to the United States, where he met with senior aviation officials, airport authorities, TSA and others.
