Prime Minister Imran Khan congratulated Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani on securing the confidence vote and said it showed the trust reposed in his leadership abilities to run the house effectively.
The Prime Minister expressed these views in a meeting with Chairman Senate Sanjrani here at the PM Office. Leader of the House in Senate Shibli Faraz, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak and Senator Barrister Muhammad Ali Khan Saif were also present. Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani’s shocking victory in Upper house is considered as a huge upset for opposition. Analysis, journalists and political figures are talking about the failed strategies of combined opposition. Sanjrani got 44 votes while the 50 votes were cast for no confidence motion moved by the united opposition. 5 votes were rejected. The opposition was needed 53 votes to remove Sanjrani. But it failed to get enough votes.
Eight opposition members cast their votes in favour of Sanjrani. They changed their party loyalty. It seems that horse trading played its role. It is a big setback for the opposition parties as they failed to maintain their majority.
