Just few days after Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Saudi Arabia and meetings with high profile officials there, sources have claimed that PM Imran has cancelled his scheduled visit to Malaysia under pressure from Saudi Arabia.
Sources claimed that Malaysian Prime Minister had been informed about the decision. Earlier it was reported that Foreign Minister Shaha Mehmood Qureshi will attend the summit but now no Pakistani representative will participate in Kuala Lumpur Summit.
Earlier in order to assure Pakistan’s support to Saudi Arabia and to assuage Kingdom’s reservations over Kuala Lumpur summit, Prime Minister Imran Khan visited Kingdom and hold important meeting with Saudi Crown Prince.
On the other hand, rumors are circulating that Saudi Arabia is not happy with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to attend Kuala Lumpur summit being held in Malaysia from Dec 18-20. As per source, the Saudis are already seeing the summit as an attempt to present an alternative to the Jeddah-based Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Kuala Lumpur summit organized by Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Tun Mahathir Mohamad, will be attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Iranian President Hasan Rouhani. Indonesian President Joko Widodo too was expected to attend the summit, but he has reportedly succumbed to pressure and one of his representatives would now attend the meeting.
