According to the Lahore Police, at least 79 drug dealers and drug mules have been arrested from different areas in Lahore in December 2019.
According to sources, the police started man hunts for alleged drug peddlers and gamblers on December 1, and continued a crackdown across the city for the second consecutive day on December 2. At least, 78 cases have been registered against the drug dealers in Lahore, during the massive operation.
The provincial government of Punjab, earlier in September decided to launch a severe crackdown against drug dealers who operated outside educational institutions like schools, colleges and universities. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Ahmed Khan Buzdar had ordered mass, indiscriminate action against drug dealers who sold drugs like Hashish, Heroin, Opium and Methamphetamine to students.
CM Buzdar in a statement had said that “those selling drugs were not worth any mercy, those poisoning the youth deserve to be behind bars.”
