The police arrested Syed Ahmed Shah, the secretary of late Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam Sami (JUI-S) leader Maulana Samiul Haq on murder charges. As per reports, Shah was arrested over his conflicting statements as police examined first and last statements, which were conflicting. Police sought his physical remand for interrogation on Friday (March 1).
A senior police official told local media that “In his earlier statement, Ahmed Shah had claimed he had locked the main gate from outside when he left Maulana Sami alone at home to fetch drinking water from a filtration plant and later, he said he had not locked the gate when he left”.
Maulana Sami ul Haq was stabbed to death at his residence in Rawalpindi on November 2, 2018. He was the chancellor of Dar ul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak, KPK. Maula Sami was son of Maulana Abdul Haq who established Dar ul Uloom Haqqania. He was one of the signatories of 1973 constitution as member national assembly in 1973. Maulana Sami ul Haq was member of the Senate of Pakistan from 1985 to 1997.
