Governments’ crackdown against Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) is continued as in a recent development police has arrested absconding acting chief of TLP, Dr Shafiq Ameeni from the Umarzai area of Charsadda, while he was leading the protest rally on Friday (Feb 1), District Police Officer (DPO) Irfanullah confirmed the reports.
As per reports, Ameeni was wanted for leading a motorway blockage and an anti-state sit-in, among other cases relating to rioting and inflicting losses to the national exchequer, according to the police. Dr Ameeni was serving as the party’s acting chief, after the detention of top TLP leaders Khadim Hussain Rizvi and Pir Afzal Qadri.
TLP Chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi was taken into ‘protective custody’ by the police late on November 23, 2018,as Rizvi refused to withdraw his call for protest in Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on November 25. The TLP leader was shifted to a guest house by the law enforcement authorities. Police had reportedly arrested dozens of Party workers including leaders TLP, as central leader Dr Asif Ali Bilali, TLP Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa amir Syed Zafar Iqbal Shah Binori, Mufti Zahoor Ahmed Jalali, Allama Akram Jalali and Maulana Nisar Ahmed Jalali, from different parts of the country.
