Senator of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Mustafa Nawaz has announced to resign from his senate membership. He handed over his resignation to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that 21 senators have handed over their resignations to him. The senators were of the view that they were ashamed of the party’s defeat.
Mustafa Nawaz took the decision after the opposition no-confidence motion failed to remove Chairman Senator from his position. Mustafa Nawaz said that his senate seat is a party asset and he will return back to it while he said that what happened today in senate session was an embarrassment for all. He said that it was inappropriate think that opposition lost its 14 votes.
The joint opposition has failed to de-seat Sadiq Sanjrani. Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani will retain the chairmanship of senate as the vote of no confidence against him failed to get the required majority. Sanjrani got 44 votes while the 50 votes were cast for no confidence motion moved by the united opposition. 5 votes were rejected. The opposition was needed 53 votes to remove Sanjrani. But it failed to get enough votes.
Eight opposition members cast their votes in favour of Sanjrani. They changed their party loyalty. It seems that horse trading played its role. It is a big setback for the opposition parties as they failed to maintain their majority.
