Prime Minister Special Assistant (PMSA) on Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has said that the rich section of the society is much weaker in paying taxes while no compromise will be made on the collection of taxes.
Addressing a presser in Islamabad Prime Minister special assistant on Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said that when the government took charge of the government the economic indicators were disturbing while the government through its economic reforms improved the economic conditions.
He further said that PTI government has succeeded in reducing the circular debt to less than 10 billion rupees. The PMSA said that the government decreased its expenditure, froze the defense expenditure and slashed its current account deficit by 73 percent.
Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said that “we are working only for the betterment of the masses and wanted to bring prosperity in the people’s lives adding that our all efforts for people of Pakistan. “We are prepared to stand against any power in the world for the sake of the country adding that we are trying to collect revenue so that Pakistan could not borrow loans from the outside,” the PMSA said.
He informed that the government collected a sum of Rs 580 billion in tax while the previous year in the same period an amount of Rs 509 billion was collected adding that the export increased and the import decreased as compared to previous year.
He said that a number of taxpayers in the country has reached 2. 5 million while FBR registered 0.6 million taxpayers and it will be extended further. The PMSA said that the government is going to introduce a system through which the exporters will get refunds immediately adding that the tax refund will occur till every 16th of every month from next time.
Shiekh said that an exchange rate has been improved through which the value of rupees increased during June and July while rupees is stable now while the stock market is also better now. He said that we are trying to run the country in a better manner and wanted privatization in a transparent manner while the government has decided to the privatization of the sector which has not been running or working in a public sector and advertisements have been given for the privatization of 10 companies in this regard.
For the development in the agriculture sector, the PMSA said that zero percent progress had been made in the last five years in the country and the government wanted reforms in the agriculture sector and the projects worth of an amount of Rs 250 billion have been approved and we are hopeful that the agriculture will be improved this year.
