Punjab Local Government Minister, and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Aleem Khan has been taken into custody by NAB in a case pertaining to assets beyond means as he was unable to satisfy NAB regarding his source of income for his properties in Dubai and London. Following the arrest, Aleem has resigned from the post of senior Punjab minister, family sources said.
As per reports, NAB is investigating cases involving an offshore company, and owning assets beyond his known sources of income. The senior minister was in the NAB office for roughly two hours. After he was taken into custody, he was prevented from leaving the office and the cars he had arrived in left the premises.
Punjab Information Minister Fayazul Hasan Chohan while speaking to local media confirmed detention of Khan and said “NAB has taken Aleem into custody for further investigation, it is not yet clear whether he has been arrested”. Chohan further said, “NAB has the authority to arrest any official or bureaucrat who owns disproportionate assets.”
