Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders while talking to media after an emergent meeting jointly chaired by the Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar at the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office to review the situation in the wake of the arrest of PTI’s senior leader Aleem Khan’s arrest, lauds the Aleem’s decision to quit ministry after his arrest. PTI leaders paid tribute to Aleem Khan for his unforgettable and sincere contributions for party and expect justice and believed in the supremacy of law.
Punjab Local Government Minister, and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Aleem Khan were taken into custody by NAB in a case pertaining to assets beyond means and his offshore company as he was unable to satisfy NAB regarding his source of income for his properties in Dubai and London. Following the arrest, Aleem has resigned from the post of senior Punjab minister, family sources said.
Information minister Fawad Chaudhry while talking about Aleem Khan’s arrest said that “The way Aleem Khan tendered his resignation depicts a clear difference in culture … it tells a lot about prevailing culture in the PTI and other political parties,” he said, adding that opposition parties would now find it difficult to come up with further criticism [against NAB and the government]. “Aleem Khan knows that now he has to face NAB cases without using his authority,” he added.
Governor Punjab made it clear for opposition and people that Aleem Khan’s arrest has proved that there is no political pressure on institutes of Pakistan and NAB is independent in its decisions and investigation. “Aleem Khan tendered his resignation following his arrest as per standard international norm everywhere in the developed world and the same is prevalent in the PTI,” said the governor. Punjab Minister for Information Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan said: “It is the prerogative of anti-corruption watchdog to arrest any civil servant or politician for investigation, especially in cases involving money. Aleem is just taken into custody for investigations. His arrest does not mean that he has been declared accused or convict”.
