Federal Minister for Water Resources and leader of the incumbent PTI government , Faisal Vawda, is making headlines from last few days after his shameful and unethical act of bringing military boot in talk show to mock Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. He was strongly criticized and banned from appearing TV shows but this time he could face to legal battle.
Vawda landed in hot water after a petition filed with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sought his disqualification, stating that he had hid his dual citizenship while submitting his nomination papers for General Elections 2018. According to a report, Mr. Vawda was a US national when he submitted his documents in June, 2018.
As per details , the last date to file nomination papers for the elections held in July 2018 was June 8 and later extended for another three days. Taking his documents and evidence, Vawda submitted election papers on the last date — June 11, 2018 —along with an affidavit wherein he declared himself holding no citizenship other than that of Pakistani.
Its worth mentioning here that the Supreme Court of Pakistan, in a judgment, had categorically stated that the candidates who previously held dual nationality should have the renunciation certificate at the time of filing of nomination papers. Various legislators were disqualified by the top court on this count; included among them were two PML-N senators.
