The long awaited fifth map for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is coming soon, and it’s called Karakin. After a few early teasers were released, developer PUBG Corp confirmed the name on social media and provided brief trailer video for the new map.
However, this is not just a new map, with various new features and aspects being added.
Karakin appears to be set in the Middle East, it’s a desert map with at least one small village area in mountainous terrain. Initially it was believed that the map is located somewhere in Greece or Italy, but the words “Jamila” and “Rakin” visible in the image are Arabic words, which confirmed it is indeed based in Middle East., and there are a number of caverns for you to duck into, as well. Besides the official new map and PUBG season 6 teases, leaked and datamined info suggests that it’ll be a 2×2 location and a mechanic that destroys all buildings within a ‘Black Zone.’
Various data mining teams found leaks that also suggest that the new map will replace Vikendi, the snow map. Player will not be able to play Vikendi as it would be removed from the game, but players will still be able to play Vikendi in custom matches.
“Vikendi will be rotating out when season 6 begins, but not permanently,” Hawkinz, PUBG’s community manager tweeted earlier on January 14. “You can of course still play Vikendi in custom matches,” he added.
There is no work on when Karakin will hit live servers, but it might make its way to the test servers very soon. The official PUBG Corp Account on Reddit stated that the Motor Glider is the only new content on live this week, but the “test server is a different story and you’ll hear more on that soon.”
The latest video released by Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds shows players battling inside a different part of the same map. The environment seems like it is now destructible, with bullet holes and bullets being able to pass through walls.
This map will also feature a new mechanic called “Black Zone”. Black Zone unlike the Red Zone will also destroy buildings and anyone inside it, which further adds to the skill ceiling of the game. The trailer also shows an RPG launcher (Rocket Propelled Grenade) in use, and this new weapon class might be introduced along with the new map.
The update for Season 6: Shakedown will hit live servers in a week and will be playable for console players on January 30th. Test servers are going live tomorrow and we expect to see more soon.
Here’s the trailer if you’d like to see it for yourself.
