US President, Donald Trump was contacted by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin on December, 30 through a phone call. Both leaders discussed the condition of relations between their two countries, the White House confirmed on December 30.
According to both sides, the reason for the call was to thank President Trump for providing intelligence on a potential holiday terrorist attack in Russia
Spokesman for the White House, Hogan Gidley did not further elaborate, but Russian officials’ on December, 28 stated that a reportedly planned terrorist threat at St. Petersburg was foiled thanks to a tip from Washington. Gidley told media that presidents of both countries committed to keep up counter-terrorism cooperation between both countries.
“The presidents also discussed the state of relations between the United States and Russia and future efforts to support effective arms control,” Gidley said, subtly hinting at President Trump’s wish to establish a Nuclear Arms control deal.
