Sardar Masood Khan, president of Azad Jammu Kashmir, claimed that the novel coronavirus is a check by Allah and “we would have to respond to the pandemic with patience and wisdom”. He stated after n call discussion with AJK Director General Public Health Dr. Sardar Aftab Khan,
The ulema [religious scholars] should come forward to guide the people in this hour of trial and prepare them to live their lives in the light of Quran and Sunnah.”
President Masood also affirmed in his official statement on Monday that AJK is not so affected by the tragedy, but that the country should, in the next few days, take all appropriate measures to cope with all circumstances.
The briefing revealed that RTTs, led by DHOs, were fully operational in all 10 districts of the liberated territories. During the briefing, it became clear. The AJK President was told by the General Health Director that separate wards had been developed in ten Azad Kashmir hospitals while samples were sent to the National Institutes of Health for testing of 44 suspected coronavirus cases.
Lab results were received of 40 people and only one was positive screened, who was transferred to a quarantine center in Mirpur. The health official told President Masood that “hopefully the project will start operating within a few days” regarding the virology laboratory at the Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences Mukaparabad, which has been improved on an emergency basis
He also informed the Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) that the role of planning, taking immediate measures and tracking the situation was delegated round the clock.
In his address, the AJK president said that emergency steps had already started to ensure the presence and education of doctors and workers working in clinics, as well as the prompt delivery of drugs, such as inspecting suspicious persons at entrances and exits to the liberated territories.
Whilst appreciated the military teaching training to medical teams dedicated to treating potential corona cases he said, this is an ongoing process that will continue on a daily basis.
President Masood said it was a major challenge to mitigate the adverse effects of Corona on the national economy, particularly on the fragile neglected segments of society, praising the National Disaster Management Authority, the Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority, and other agencies concerned for taking emergency action.
Referral back to the situation in Occupied Kashmir, the President protested that now that the world is concentrating its attention on the outbreak of coronavirus, New Delhi has started a new spree of violence in the disputed region, and he appeals for strict compliance with the recommendations of the health professionals to save themselves and their families.
He has called on the international community to note India’s oppressive acts and abuses of human rights in the contested valley “The Indian troops have stepped up killing Kashmiri people in the course of so-called door-to-door searches of the length and cranny of occupied Kashmir.”
