Ben Cutting finished off the game in style, Cutting struck 2 back to back sixes off Amad Butt in last over to help Quetta Gladiators win the ninth match of PSL 5 against Islamabad United by 5 wickets at Pindi Stadium on Thursday.
The right-handed batsman scored match winning 42 runs off 17 balls smashed with 2 boundaries and 4 sixes. Ben Cutting kept his nerves calm after Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed left Gladiators at 133-5.
In Last overe there were 11 runs needed, Amad butt given the charge to bowl the crucial over, Gladiators had Mohammad Nawaz on strike the left-handed batsman who scored 25 runs off 20 balls, Nawaz missed the first ball which created immense pressure on Gladiators, A single on next ball brought some relief to Gladiators which had a firm belief on Ben Cutting. The last two sixes were exactly a treat for Pindi’s crowd who turned up in a huge number to welcome PSL for the first time in their city.
Before this, Colin Ingram smashed 63 runs off 40 balls as United posted 187-7 target in 20 overs. Ingram struck six boundaries and two sixes to put a strong case on the scoreboard. He scored 15 runs in last over of Sohail Khan.
17-year-old Naseem Shah was exceptional with the bowl as he took two early wickets to take Gladiators on dominating position. Naseem Shah saved Gladiators from Luke Ronchi’s charge and removed him off the first ball of the second over. The right-handed batsman started off aggressively by hitting a four and six straight away to Sohail Khan on the first two balls of the inning. He made 11 off 4 balls.
Shah then hunted David Malan by thrashing the middle stump. He scored 10 including a huge six.
Later on, Colin Munro took the charge for Islamabad United as the left-handed batsman scored 31 runs to help his team post 57-3 in power play. Skipper Shadab Khan also batted sensibly and scored 39 off 25 balls with three boundaries and two sixes.
For Gladiators, Shah and Tymal Mills took two wickets each while Mohammad Husnain and Ben Cutting shared a wicket apiece.
In reply, opener Jason Roy (50) provided a strong start to the defending PSL champions. A couple of quick wickets took back United into the game but Sarfraz (33) and Nawaz (25) supported the winning side strongly.
At the end, Cutting and Nawaz led the score a match-winning 54 runs partnership. For United, Ahmed Safi Abdullah and Faheem Ashraf bagged two wickets each.
