23-year-old Indian rape victim who was set ablaze by her perpetrators on Thursday (Dec 5) passed away at Safdarjung Hospital on Friday night after doctors failed to revive her following a cardiac arrest.
Hospital authorities confirmed the death saying she suffered a cardiac arrest and could not be resuscitated. The victim was on her way to Rae Bareli on Thursday in connection with the case when she was kidnapped by the alleged rapists who set her afire. She had suffered nearly 95 per cent burns. As per details, the girl was allegedly raped by two boys in December 2018 and had been pursuing justice. The case was on trial.
The woman had filed a complaint with Unnao police in March alleging that she had been raped at gun-point on December 12, 2018, police documents showed. Having been subsequently jailed, the alleged rapist was released last week after securing bail, police officer S.K. Bhagat said in Lucknow.
A day earlier, Indian police on Friday (Dec 6) shot dead four detained gang-rape and murder suspects as they were re-enacting their alleged crime, prompting outrage but also wild celebrations.
