Opposition leaders are actively playing their roles in de-seating senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and senators have already submitted a no-confidence motion against incumbent chairman. But sources have revealed one more interesting thing regarding the final candidate for Senate chairman. Opposition parties are agreed to give chairmanship to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) but speculations regarding division inside the party have gathered pace after top leadership of PML-N is seems to be divided over the final name.
As per reports, Party President, Shehbaz Sharif led faction in the party wants Raja Zafar ul Haq on the top seat, while former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz supporting Senator Pervez Rasheed for the Senate office. Sources has revealed that Maryam, in a telephonic conversation with People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, suggested name of Pervez Rasheed for the top senate slot. However, PPP chairman asked time for consultation with his party leaders.
According to sources, if the People’s Party helps a PML-N candidate to win the Chairman Senate office, it will get in exchange the office of the Leader of Opposition in the upper house. Opposition Alliance’s ‘Rahbar Committee’ will meet today (July 11) to finalize the name of their candidate for Chairman Senate. According to sources, the meeting will be chaired by Akram Khan Durrani and the committee will discuss on the names of the probable candidate for Senate chairmanship. However, it has also been circulating that the next chairman will be chosen from Balochistan.
The probable names of the candidates include Senator Mir Kabir and Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo, the sources added. Its worth mentioning that, opposition on July 9 submitted a resolution, signed by 44 senators, against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani to Senate Secretary. The 11-member opposition’s anti-government Rahbar Committee had announced consensus to remove the chairman Senate.
