Government of Punjab decided to lift the 12 year old ban imposed on Basant Festival, says Punjab Information and Culture Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan
the traditional kite-flying festival that was banned by the government in 2007 due to increasing deaths in kite-flying related incidents.
Fayyazul Hassan Chohan said a committee comprising of Punjab law minister, the provincial chief secretary, media persons, civil society and other administrative officials, will be formed to deliberate on the modalities about how the negative aspects of the festival can be avoided and overcome.
The committee will provide a comprehensive report within 7 days to Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar, after that the Punjab Government will decide in which manner we will celebrate the festival safely, but surely this time the people of Lahore will celebrate the banned traditional kite-flying festival, he added
