Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed the support for the Venezuelan legitimate government amid the worsening of the internal political crisis.During a telephonic conversation with Venezuelan President Maduro, he suggested seeking solutions within the constitutional framework and overcoming differences through peaceful dialogue. “Destructive interference from abroad blatantly violates basic norms of international law,” Putin was quoted as saying.
Earlier Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself interim president after Thousands of people marched around Venezuela demanding that Nicolas Maduro step down from power. Pro-government counterrallies are also being held. “I swear to formally assume the powers of the presidency of Venezuela,” the 35-year-old politician said as he raised his right hand.
US President Donald Trump formally recognized Guaido shortly after his announcement and praised his plan to hold elections. It is followed by similar statements from Canada, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina.
